Histamine levels are very much a concern for a lot of sensitive people.
However, with Rosita there is no concern whatsoever. The time is takes to release the oil from the liver varies depending on its oil content and size etc. The time range is between 5-15 minutes. This occurs under low temperature and oxygen conditions.
The oil is stored in state of the art stainless steel cold tanks which are under vacuum. This keeps the oil amazingly fresh. A sample of oil is then removed and sent for contaminant testing. The analysis results return within 2 weeks and the oil is bottled directly from these tanks, again under low temperature and oxygen free conditions (the bottles are flushed with Nitrogen before being filled with oil). The end result is a GENUINE Extra Virgin Cod Liver Oil that is extremely fresh.
There are no Biogenic Amines in the oil. Actually, we have even tested the whole remaining wild Codfish and it has undetected levels of histamine and cadaverine.
Furthermore, our oils have undergone microbiological tests and have NEVER been found to be contaminated with microorganisms.
The issue is not related to whether the oil is raw. Organisms like bacteria cannot grow in pure oil due to a lack of nutrient substrate. So the problem arises when oils are contaminated with other material including water, protein and liver tissue. That is why Rosita has amazing procedures to ensure that material from the liver is separated from the liver oil very efficiently and as soon as possible (within 5-15 minutes for cod livers). The result is pure oil.
The same applies to Extra Virgin Olive Oils which are raw but again high quality oils do not have any problems with bacterial growth.
